Wood turtles probably like wood, and these are really endangered with only 13,650-31,790 left and still declining which makes me extremely angry. their colorful orange legs and neck, the unique “woodworked” appearance of their shells, and their ability to absorb oxygen through their skin while overwintering underwater is probably why they are called wood turtles. They are also apparently very good pets but its illegal to own them so that’s sad but being sought after for pets is one of the reasons it’s endangered.
